My name is Jen Johnson.
I'm a writer... but I began as a musician, and music is in my soul.
When I was 8, my mom got a phone call... telemarketer... before they were common =).
They asked if anyone in the household was interested in music lessons. I was. Had been for a while.
Next thing I know, I'm in the CYB (Colorado Youth Bands) playing my heart out on a keyboard with 7 other kids, trying to be the best....
Mr. North, the owner and founder, taught us: "Shut up & show off."
Within 6 months, I went from being a pipsqueak beginner to the highest level band in the CYB. The Show Band.
When I was 11, I took home more trophies than the 15-year-olds I was competing against in our annual competition.
...
And this is how it began.
My love and passion for music runs deep....
I wrote my first instrumental when I was 8. I called it "Ice-Capades" thanks for the title, Mom....
Since then.... I won't lie. I went through a few years in life where music fell to the background. There was a certain person who I regarded as more important than life who didn't encourage or approve of my music... especially the lyrical content.
To be less "loud" about it, I turned to my journals. Writing down words instead of music was easy; anything ad everything that worked its way into my brain found a page in my journals. Among the pages of drivel, there are pages of genius. I turned these into a poetry book: Napkin Poetry. I talked about publishing this book for 10 years before I did.... and now, it's there.
Broken Publications: Napkin Poetry
Meanwhile, in the background:
I'm focusing on my publishing company, Broken Publications. My soul mate, significant other, is a producer and musician, brilliant composer. I do vocals. His client - OUR client - contacts me to do another song on the side, contracts us to do a few specifically targeted songs - and I hear nothing but good feedback.
However, these are all our friends, colleagues, co-workers, and supporters =).
So.
For an unbiased opinion, I am inquiring here.
I have my own reservations, but the client is king, so when I say it, it doesn't matter....
When YOU say it - as the audience - it DOES.
H. Jay Carney's Evil Undressed {protilius seduction of blood remix)
There are other songs... this one is aiming for the broadest audience. What do you think??? =)
I can take it. Bring it.
Jen
